Message from the President | Reflecting on a remarkable 2024
This year has been a big one. We hit a historic milestone, growing to over 2,000 members - a testament to the strength and unity of the cancer nursing community and to the quality services and benefits we proudly deliver to support our members. Together, we’ve accomplished so much. We have:
- Delivered over 25 webinars, providing essential knowledge and insights for cancer nurses nationally.
- Produced a podcast series, amplifying diverse voices and experiences from across the cancer nursing workforce.
- Held regular local events thanks to our State Group Committees, providing opportunities for education, connection, and collaboration across the country.
- Awarded $100,000 dollars in grants and funding to support further education, research, travel and professional development.
- Launched a new mentoring program, fostering growth and connection among 60 of our members.
- Connected over 600 of you at our Annual Congress.
- Built valuable partnerships with new industry collaborators.
- Celebrated the inaugural Cancer Nurses Day, recognising and bringing together over 4,000 cancer nurses through 230 events.
And now, to conclude an incredible year, we’ve launched our brand-new website. This platform is designed to enhance your experience as a member, providing easier access to resources, professional development opportunities, and connections within our community. We’re excited about the impact it will have in supporting you and the broader cancer nursing workforce in the years ahead.
These achievements are just the beginning, and next year holds even greater opportunities as we:
- Work closely with ISNCC to deliver a landmark international Congress in 2025.
- Prepare for a bigger and better Cancer Nurses Day to recognise and celebrate your incredible contributions (save the date for August 14, 2025)
- Work closely with key organisations to ensure the successful roll-out of the Australian Cancer Nursing and Navigation Program.
- Continue to enhance our services to meet your evolving needs.
- Strengthen our collaborations with industry partners to create new and improved initiatives for our members.
- Focus on our Early Career Cancer Nurses and the evolving treatment landscape to secure the future of our profession
Before I sign off for the year, I want to express my deepest thanks to Professor Kate White as she steps down from the Board after years of service. Her contributions have been instrumental in shaping our vision and initiatives and we're going to miss her insights and expertise. Her critical thinking and sharp intelligence have made us a better organisation, and has been crucial to our advocacy and positioning as an organisation.
Thank you for being part of our journey in 2024. 2025 is set to be a game-changing year and we are excited to continue working together towards our vision of achieving the best possible outcomes and experiences for all people affected by cancer.
To those of you working over the holiday period, thank you for your continued commitment to providing the best possible care to your patients.
Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season.
Kind regards,
Anne Mellon
