Liver Foundation Impact Report 2024

The Liver Foundation's 2024 Impact Report highlights the progress they’ve made as the national peak body working across all liver diseases and liver cancer.

In 2024, the Liver Foundation launched Australia’s first Nurse-Led Support Line for people with primary liver cancer and underlying liver disease. Led by one of the country’s leading hepatology nurses, this service provides expert guidance and support to patients and their loved ones, complementing the care offered by specialists and GPs.

Over 10,000 Australian GPS have enrolled in our education. That’s 1 in 3 GPs who have a taken a course in liver disease, an issue that impacts 1 in 3 Australians.

They've expanded their digital patient information, adding 40 new resources to better support people living with liver disease and liver cancer.

Their community engagement has surged, with monthly website visits increasing from 10,000 in September 2023 to 54,990 in January 2025.

These milestones are in alignment with the long-term vision of:

  • A future where liver cancer rates decline, and survival rates improve far beyond the current 22%
  • Greater awareness of MAFLD, ensuring Australians have the tools to prevent, manage, and reverse it
  • Greater awareness and support for people with rare liver diseases, leading to better health outcomes
  • Accessible support for everyone affected by liver disease and liver cancer, at every stage of their journey

The Liver Foundation have equally ambitious plans to support people with liver disease in 2025 and beyond. These plans are outlined in the impact report below.
