ACNNP April 2025 Newsletter Highlights

From expanding specialist support services to advancing cancer care navigation and nursing, the second edition of the ACNNP newsletter published by the Department of Health and Aged Care captures key milestones and sector collaboration.

The second edition of the ACNNP Newsletter showcases a busy quarter of progress, with updates on the rollout of cancer care nurses, specialist support services, and digital navigation initiatives. The Cancer Sector Roundtable held on 20 March 2025 brought together key stakeholders to discuss service design, consumer engagement, and education, with highlights including the CNSA’s upcoming nurse education portal. The McGrath Foundation is leading the Cancer Care Nursing service, with 34 new roles recruited as of March and a “Find a Nurse” tool in development.

Specialist Support Services have officially launched through partners like the Liver Foundation and Head and Neck Cancer Australia, completing the activation of all 12 delivery partners. Priorities now include refining referral pathways and enhancing how consumers transition between services. Navigation services, led by Cancer Council and Cancer Hub, are progressing digital and phone-based support pathways, with co-design and expanded access on the horizon. Priority population engagement continues, with a focus on mental health, cultural safety, and equitable service design.

Additional updates include an independent evaluation by the Nous Group, key national initiatives such as the launch of the National Lung Cancer Screening Program in July 2025, and upcoming events like National Palliative Care Week and Rare Cancers Awareness Day. The newsletter also features “One Minute With Lisa” from Bowel Cancer Australia, reflecting on the power of collaboration and the need for personalised, person-centred care across cancer services.
