Brain Cancer nurse Consultant
My name is Hayley Henley, and I am a nurse working out of the Royal Adelaide Hospital under Cancer Services, in the role of Brain Cancer Nurse Consultant, which was commenced in June 2024. I have a background in Neurosurgery and ENT, and worked out of Flinders Medical Centre for 11 years in various roles such as Clinical Nurse, Associate Nurse Unit Manager, Nurse Unit Manager and Acting Neurosurgery Nurse Consultant. I have studied a Bachelor of Health Sciences with Flinders University, majoring in Mental Health, and underwent a Graduate Certificate in Neuroscience with University of Tasmania.
When the opportunity came for South Australia's first adult Brain Cancer NC role- I believed I had the skill set to provide care to patients and their families beyond discharge from hospital, and thought how important it was for these patients to have a point of contact when home, someone to connect all the medical teams together, answer questions and escalate concerns. Once patients are discharged it is challenging for them to get assistance from home, unless at a planned appointment. I wanted to provide a service that gave patients and their families a contact/link which would ultimately aim to improve patient care and quality of life while on their brain cancer journey.
