In addition, Slater and Gordon have a dedicated specialist Superannuation and Disability Insurance team to support patients with accessing the entitlements they may hold through their superannuation fund. Most superannuation funds provide insurance entitlements for those who cannot work due to their illness. Depending on the fund and the nature of the illness, the benefits can be paid as a lump sum or as periodic benefits. Such benefits can include Income Protection payments, a lump sum for Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) or Terminal Illness. Some insurers also offer Trauma cover for specific medical conditions.
Their specialist legal team can evaluate a patients’ circumstances and provide advice in relation to accessing their superannuation fund benefits. They can also support your patients through the claim process to maximise the chances of a successful and expedited outcome.
If your patient’s claim is delayed or denied, Slater and Gordon can explore all possible avenues to challenge the decision of the insurer or super fund to provide the best chance of obtaining entitlements.
Time limits can apply for lodging a claim and will apply for challenging a decision, so it’s important for patients to act quickly.
